Stolen Goods Policy
Last updated 15 August 2026
Bikes are the most stolen and resold item in the UK, and a marketplace that looks the other way becomes part of the problem. Peddler has zero tolerance for stolen goods, and the product is built to make them hard to sell here.

Our approach
- Any listing can be reported, and reported listings are suspended immediately pending review
- We hold sale funds and cooperate with police when theft is suspected
Before you buy
- Ask the seller for the frame number and proof of purchase or service history
- Check the frame number yourself on BikeRegister's public search
- Be wary of prices far below market and sellers who rush the deal
Reporting a suspicious listing
If you believe a listing is stolen, report it from the listing page. The listing is suspended from the marketplace immediately while we review it, and reports are confidential: the seller is not told who flagged it.
If your bike was stolen
Contact us through the contact page with your police crime reference number, the frame number, and any listing you believe is your bike. We will suspend the listing, preserve the evidence, and work with the police on next steps. Registering your bike on BikeRegister makes recovery far more likely.
What happens to sellers of stolen goods
Listings are removed, accounts are permanently banned, funds from affected sales are withheld, and information is shared with the police. Knowingly selling stolen goods is a criminal offence, and we treat it as one.
After you buy
When you buy a bike, register it in your own name on BikeRegister. It takes a few minutes, it is the single best deterrent against theft, and it keeps the registry that protects every future buyer up to date.
