Paying by Bank
Last updated 15 August 2026
Peddler takes payment by bank transfer through open banking, so you approve each purchase in your own banking app instead of typing card details. This page explains how that works, why we chose it, and what happens when a payment does not go through.

How it works
At checkout you pick your bank and are handed over to its own app or website to approve the payment. Once you approve, you come straight back to Peddler and the order is placed. The amount, the reference and the destination are filled in for you, so there is nothing to copy across and nothing to get wrong.
Payments are processed by Stripe, our regulated payment partner. You are never asked for a card number, and Peddler never handles the transfer itself.
Why we use it
Bank transfers cost a fraction of what card payments cost to accept, and that difference is what keeps our fees where they are. They also arrive as settled money rather than a promise to pay, so a seller can post your order as soon as the payment lands rather than waiting on a card to clear.
What we can see
You sign in to your bank directly. Neither Peddler nor Stripe sees your banking credentials, and neither can move money out of your account on its own: every payment needs your approval in your own bank.
What we receive back is the confirmation that the payment succeeded, the amount, and the name on the account it came from. We use the name to help resolve disputes about who paid for what.
While a payment confirms
Approval usually confirms in a few seconds, though a bank can occasionally take a minute or two. Your order page updates on its own once it lands, so there is no need to pay again. If the payment never confirms, nothing leaves your account and the item stays available.
Refunds and chargebacks
Refunds go back to the account the payment came from. A bank transfer cannot be reversed by a card chargeback, so your cover comes from the held payment instead: your money is only released to the seller once you confirm receipt, and stays held while a reported problem is resolved. See Buyer Protection for when a refund is due and how disputes are decided.
If your bank is not supported
Open banking covers the large UK banks and most building societies, but not every account. If yours does not appear, or approval fails part way through, no money moves and you can try again. Get in touch through the contact page if a payment leaves you stuck.
